Cleanroom Lift Tables: FDA and GMP Claims to Question

A lift table does not become FDA approved simply because it is stainless steel or marketed for cleanrooms. Evaluate equipment against the facility's process and quality requirements.

Separate equipment construction from process compliance

A cleanroom label or stainless finish does not establish FDA approval or GMP compliance for an installation. Identify where the lift table sits, what it handles and how it interacts with the process. FDA's aseptic-processing guidance has a sterile-drug and biological-product scope; it should not be treated as a universal equipment standard for food, electronics or every controlled room.

Specify the mechanical duty separately: load distribution, carrier, transfer heights, stroke, movement and cycle pattern. Have the quality team identify construction and documentation requirements for the actual exposure. A table may fit the load while still lacking the surface access or material information needed for the process review.

Give the supplier the cleaning conditions and evidence requirements

Provide relevant cleaning agents and procedures, including contact conditions and service access. Review wheels, controls, joints, underside components and seals as well as the tabletop. Request information for the actual model and configuration. A general brochure does not replace the facility's applicable equipment verification or process-validation responsibilities.

Compare closed-container handling with exposed-product applications as distinct uses. Record which requirements change when the table moves between areas. Agree on acceptance evidence with operations and quality before ordering. This reduces the risk of equipment remaining unavailable because a mechanically acceptable design creates an unresolved cleaning, construction or documentation issue.

Buyer questions

Does buying a cleanroom table establish GMP compliance?

No. Equipment selection is one part of the facility's controlled process and quality system.

Which part of the table should the quality team review?

Review the complete assembly exposed to the process, including the underside, controls, wheels, joints and service access, not only the top surface.

Can a supplier's FDA-related claim replace our quality review?

No. Ask exactly what the claim covers and what evidence supports it for the proposed equipment. The facility's applicable process and regulatory requirements still need review. A material choice or cleanroom label does not establish blanket FDA approval or complete GMP compliance.

Should a table RFQ include the cleaning procedure?

Describe the relevant agents, method and exposed components so compatibility can be assessed. Identify access needed for cleaning and maintenance. The quality team should determine which requirements and evidence are mandatory; a stainless tabletop alone leaves much of the assembly and process undefined.
